Frequently Asked Questions

Are you an Inclusive Makeup Artist?

100% - Everyone is welcome in my chair!
Ashby Artistry is an inclusive, affirming space and I proudly work with people of all genders, identities and backgrounds. Whether you wear makeup every day or feel completely out of your comfort zone, you’ll be met with warmth and respect. My job is to help you feel like yourself, and encourage you to embrace makeup, in your own way.

Can I change or update my booking details?

Yes, absolutely.
Wedding planning evolves and I understand that details can shift. You’re welcome to update timings, locations and other booking information at any point - get in touch to let me know!

I don’t usually wear makeup,
is that okay?

More than okay, it’s actually really common for most of my clients.
Most people book me precisely because they don’t want to look overdone. My approach is focused on skin looking like skin, ensuring the product feels comfortable and is enhancing what’s already there. You’ll never be pushed into a look that doesn’t feel like you.

Where are makeup trials held?

Makeup previews are held on weekdays at the studio in Keswick. Usually these are around 2 hours and always a calm, friendly atmosphere.

Sunday afternoon previews may be available by special arrangement and are subject to an additional fee due to weekend demand.

The best time for a trial is around 3 or 4 months before the wedding day. Though, if you live further away or need to make alternative plans, it’s totally fine. We’re happy to be flexible around you and your availability. My online diary to book your makeup trial appointment is open around 3-4 months in advance and rolling, I can send you the link to book in at anytime.

When should I have my wedding makeup trial?

What products do you use?

My kit is fully professional, cruelty-free and largely vegan. I prioritise high-performance products that photograph beautifully, wear comfortably and last throughout the day, while remaining kind to skin. The majority of these products are high-end and luxury, but not all. The performance of makeup never correlates to the price tag.
My favourite makeup brands to work with are; Makeup by Mario, Vieve, Danessa Myricks, Charlotte Tilbury and Natasha Denona.

Absolutely! I regularly work with clients who have all kinds of sensitivities, skin conditions or allergies. The best thing we can do is to have a chat and see how I can best help you.
Makeup, at it’s pure basic level, is supposed to be fun and inclusive for everyone. If we need to stick to certain products to ensure you have the best experience possible or alter what we do to have the right outcome for your skin condition - you bet that’s exactly what we are going to do together!

Retouch bags are included in our wedding packages. You’ll receive a handy little bag which will include everything you need to keep your makeup looking tip-top all day long. Your wedding team will also receive sample pots of product to keep on hand if needed.

What if my makeup needs retouching later on?

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you’re able.
Popular dates often book at least 12–18 months ahead, particularly between June and October. If your date is sooner, it’s still worth getting in touch as availability can change.

How do I secure my wedding date?

Dates are secured with a non-refundable booking deposit.
I’m unable to hold or pencil in dates without one, as peak season books quickly and availability is limited. Once your deposit is received and paperwork completed, your date is officially yours.
